Karen is totally committed to improving learning standards for young people. Her educational philosophy lies in the belief that all children are entitled to an exciting and vibrant educational journey to raise aspirations, whilst ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge to become responsible global citizens in a competitive society.
As a teacher, teacher trainer, author, Head of Technology and Head of Academics, creative thinker and environmentalist, she specialised in a range of whole school priorities, focussing on extended schools and community cohesion, in addition to developing key areas of the curriculum, in particular environmental awareness, technology and information technology.
Karen is a very successful teacher and has taught from Gr. R to Gr. 11, as well as conducting successful teacher training workshops on a wide range of topics and focus areas. Encouraging teachers to ask questions, to grow and develop their own skills in a variety of ways.
In her role as Learning and Teaching Consultant, she supports schools with raising attainment and awareness in creative and critical thinking, considering the learner as a whole. After teaching in a boys' school for years and with extensive reading she feels that teachers needs to be made aware of the different needs and considerations when teaching boys or girls, so that all children will develop confidence, individuality and creativity.
She also advises schools and teachers with ideas about enhancing Educational Technology (IT, e-learning & m-learning) and Technology Education (Design & Technology, Maker Spaces, Robotics and Coding) among the learners and works with teachers to develop problem solving, creative pedagogy, and effective classroom management.
As she has a Masters in Education, with a focus on Educational Technology, she also advises on educational IT needs for schools, assisting teachers to use technology to create a modern learning environment.
Karen can support all primary phases with developing vibrant educational pedagogies, thereby improving the quality of learning and teaching for all. She believes that creativity in the classroom can only enhance and promote enjoyment in learning, which is essential if teachers are to excite and enthuse the learners they teach, equipping them with skills for a future world we do not know.
Karen is also passionate about developing leaders and "champions" of Technology to make the programme succeed in the school and effectively engage children! Explore ideas to encourage, both boys and girls to move into the fields of engineering.
Karen is also enthusiastic about making learners aware of their role as humans to our environment, from an ethical and values driven perspective, so to develop a sustainable community 'space' where people, living creatures and nature can live in harmony.
One on one discussions, change management stratagies, staff workshops, parent information sessions, and / or learner workshops. Involvement is tailor made to suit your situation.
